It looked like we would have a good sunrise this morning, so I set the alarm for 4:30 AM and got out early. I wasn't sure where I wanted to go, but since I had delivered prints to Land's End Gift Shop on Bailey Island just the day before, it was fresh on my mind.
I stopped a couple of times driving down, and didn’t feel very inspired until I came to Mackerel Cove. The area around Glen’s Lobster had the most activity and boats in the water, and I hadn’t photographed here very much, so it was intriguing on a couple of levels. It looked like there was quite a bit of storm damage here, but was already mostly repaired and showed signs of continuing recovery. Heartening.
The color looked great even very early, but faded just before sunrise, and I thought that it might be a bust. But then, it went absolutely nuclear and I went scrambling to line it up with something interesting. This boat caught my eye from a ways away, as I could tell it was pointed into the sunrise, and was surrounded by beautifully reflective water.
This felt like a warm-up for the upcoming season. I must admit I've not done much photography in the late winter or early spring, as I mostly have focused on fulfilling print orders and making plans for upcoming workshops. That's about to change in a big way. I can't wait to get back out there and start making a bunch of new images!
