I’ve photographed this exact composition before, way back in 2013, and hadn’t really returned to it since. Squirrel Point is a favorite local walk for and my family. The lighthouse is perched beautifully above the Kennebec River just across from Phippsburg Center. One of my favorite things about the lighthouse is the fact that you have to walk just under a mile through a lovely wooded path to get here. For this sunset, I came out with my friend Jack Sharkey, and we were both blown away by the color in the sky. The red color of the lantern room is real and is caused by a red screen placed in front of the glass, which makes the lighthouse stand out against other surrounding artificial lights at night.
