This cross was erected atop Maiden Cliff in the Camden Hills in memory of Elanora French, a young girl who perished here in 1864. The story goes that her hat was blown off by a gust of wind, and after securing it, another gust pushed her over the edge. She survived the fall, but died from internal injuries the next day. Regardless, this is a beatiful spot and one of the best views in the State of Maine, stretching out over Megunticook Lake and the surrounding hills.
