Goat Island sits just offshore of Cape Porpoise in Kennebunkport, Maine. It is only accessible by boat. In the summer, caretakers live on the island and maintain the grounds and lighthouse, which are open to the public. Thanks to my friend Mark, who provided the kayaks for this awesome sunset/night adventure, I was able to get out here and make some images based directly on my own initial impressions, since I hadn't seen many photos from the island before.
In this shot, I wanted to capture a quintessential Milky Way image with the lighthouse featured prominently in the foreground. To get the shot, I climbed up onto a small tower next to the lighthouse which had a great view of the rocky foreground, ocean, and two picturesque windows. You can clearly see another lighthouse, Boon Island, shining brightly offshore below the stars.
