Portland Head was certainly amazing, but perhaps more surprising to me was how furious the surf was at the relatively sheltered location of Spring Point Ledge Light and Fort Preble in South Portland. I was worried watching folks photograph from the steps by the breakwater, and kept this high perspective myself. It certainly was not dry, however. The waves were absolutely enormous here, as well. In fact, most of the frames I took were simply filling the frame with nothing but churning surf. That wasn't as interesting as this smaller wave that I caught just before it exploded up and obscured the lighthouse in the distance. I got a text from a friend last night that these waves partially dismantled Fort Preble, seen here, and did major damage to Willard Beach.
